Windrush 75 Family Sports Day

On 16th July, the Windrush 75 Family Sports Day was held in Palmer Park. The Palmer Park venue was selected given that it is near to one of the locations in Reading where many of the Reading Windrush Generation settled and raised their families.

The event was very successful and was attended by a huge number of attendees including those from as far afield as Birmingham and Bristol. This was a multi-generational event and attracted Windrush and non-Windrush attendees. Although a very large event, we did not experience a single incident. The latter is a testament to both the planning and delivery of this event.

Activities included a cricket match, a football match and a full day of live entertainment including a local steel band and a sound system.

It was great to catch up with old friends and acquaintances and to celebrate Windrush 75. The feedback received was very positive and complimented the organisers and volunteers on their event planning and delivery.

The forecasted weather prevented the organisers from providing some of the planned children attractions.
